Edward Enninful OBE is the European editorial director of the fashion magazine VOGUE. He has changed the magazine for the better with diversity being the for front of all his decisions. Making a way for ethnic minorities and people with disabilities he wants to showcase high fashion and diversity all in one so readers can all relate and see themselves reflected.
February 2022 cover changed the way diversity has been seen in magazines and made history celebrating skin tones of the new generation of African models. This is the first ever cover to include this many models of a African heritage and it was really well received by the vogue audience.
Edward really focus on perspective of the magazine and the hypothetical audience really in depth questioning who they are and what they would like to see. This is such an important point to sit back and think about the actual message you are wanting to convey so it doesn’t get lost in the point your trying to put across. To me this is a good learning point and something to reflect back on more often.
Growing up in Ladbroke grove Edwards upbringing was far from perfect so he really had to work hard to get where he is today. Starting at i-D magazine as the youngest ever fashion director he made a name through magazine creation which has lead him to the editorial position. His morals and methods are strong and kind which is empowering the world around him.
Personally Edward Enninful is an inspiration to me through the way he chooses to speak his voice and the messages he is protesting for. The diversity aspect is the future of the fashion industry and there is a need for it to be included and exposed to bigger audiences.
