(Rankin 2018)

A fashion photographer that always stand bold and is never afraid to be inspired by the world around him is Rankin, a British freelance photographer.

Working with top British magazines and artists Rankin has made a name down to his artistic shoots and independent hardworking spirit, showing message through his work.

This is very inspiring to see whether it’s for article writing, using imagery alongside or just a powerful cover photo that’s needed. Here are my ten top favourite shoots that have inspired me with message and boldness…

10. Emma Mackey for Hunger Magazine- Shot by Rankin.

This piece feels intimate and powerful even though it’s a celebrity cover piece.

9. 1996 Spice Girls Big Issue Cover- Shot by Rankin

These are such fun and powerful images raising money for charity whilst shooting celebrity’s to capture the uniqueness of the spice girls.

8. Vivienne Westwood for Pop Magazine 2002

These images captures the boldness and personality of Vivienne Westwood which is not often seen of her as its always her work featured and not actually her.

7. Kate Winslet for Tatler 1996

The way this imagery is laid out in a grid format is really different and uses so many different images which is a good way of showcasing lots of work within one page.

6. David Bowie Dazed & Confused 1995

This image is the perfect close up and feels rebellious with the black and white yet intriguing as it’s not typical David Bowie. Embracing differences is a good skill to play with when shooting and Rankin defiantly does it well.

5. Grace Jones Liberation Magazine 2008

More edited than ever before with the use of layering these images are bold and strong. The use of colour red symbolises strength and passion which is powerful in this imagery.

4.Celeste for Hunger Magazine 2019

The boldness of the makeup and how it blends perfectly with the artist and her work is very inspiring. Its well thought out and eye catching.

3.Zendaya for Hunger Magazine 2015

I’m really drawn to this imagery as its unlike the others, it has a darkness and mysterious element to it. The hair is big and feels like it has a lot of movement within the image.

2. Debbie Harry Dazed & Confused 1998

This imagery shows an older version of Debbie and the way she has evolved with her style and music. This shoots captures her perfectly with the red lipstick being bold and bright holding the message of strength and adaptation.

1. Jarvis Cocker for Dazed 1995

This cardboard cut-out is so different to anything seen before from Rankin. It seems to have a homely and indie feel to the image which is really different from his usual up close and personal style. The style feels vintage and more like a family holiday photograph which is so unique especially to be the feature of a magazine.
