Having a wool jumper is a basic in majority of most peoples wardrobe and can be found all of the high street, online and in high end brands. However not many people know there is a massive issue on how the wool is sourced and the conditions the sheep have to endure for you to have a simple jumper plain or printed. Changing the way things are done and revolutionising the sustainability game is Sheep INC.
Sustainability and longevity is at the forefront of this brand promoting to the world you can wear wool and be kind to the animals at the same time which is often forgotten with high end brands. The brand Sheep INC has taken this a step further letting you follow every step of the process down to tracking the actual farm and sheep the wool has come from.
“We work with nature. Not against it.
Our raw materials are carbon-negative, and our manufacturing is completely powered by solar energy. This makes us the first people in the world whose process naturally saves and stores more carbon than it creates. (That’s the bit you should remember when you tell your friends about us.)” www.SheepINC.com
Using a mobile app with a code once you’ve purchased, you can follow the exact sheep the wool came from around and track how they are getting on, this is super transparent of the brand allowing you to check the welfare of the sheep ,valuing them.
The products themselves range from £100 - £200 which are not overly expensive for a well-produced ethical product. Compared to high end brands like Burberry who use wool the prices are low and more affordable.
Sustainability in the fashion industry is a massive issue and ethics of producing also rarely gets factored In to the situation or thought about to a buyer. For me this brand is extraordinary and needs to become more mainstream which links to the fashion journalist job role for me. Being able to talk about a solution and put a positive spin on what’s nearly always a negative topic is intriguing and exciting to me, making a change just by writing an article maybe or speaking at a public event. Its inspiring and would be something I’d want to wake up and do with my day.
