Being the owners of Boohoo and Pretty little thing this family is worth millions but with wealth and a vast growing business comes a big responsibility within ethics and sustainability. So whose really having to make the sacrifices for the business to succeed?

With thousands of items being sold each year unfortunately this is costing the environment and people outside the UK. Recently caught up in a scandal for underpaying their workers and the awful conditions they are being forced to work in boohoo and pretty little thing came into the lime light. This made many people question the ethics behind the brand and what’s really there.

Truthfully the ethics of these fast fashion brands are simply not good enough, people, animals and the environment are all suffering due to these companies as they are not clear with where things are sourced and how they are made. The climate especially is suffering due to fast fashion and these companies are playing a massive part in this and need to take accountability for their actions.

Workers are underpaid and materials are unmorally sourced. Clothing is cheap on their website however I feel as though all these things are looked over in the UK with their buyers looking for a cheap garment thinking one item won’t make an impact. Sometimes the buyers are just as must to blame however the Kamani family have profited out of other people’s losses and detrimental impact to the environment which will be irreversible if action is made by them soon.

The branding of Pretty little thing and Boohoo on the surface is very light and keeps up with the trends however digging a little deeper you can uncover a serious issue with a 0-10% fashion transparency rating. This needs to be changed and with an opportunity of a job role in the industry as a journalist this would be a way to voice the change were all needing to see.
